Good afternoon, parents, students, and families;
This message reminds you of two important school regulations regarding unlicensed drivers or students without a provisional or driver's license on our campus and our dress code expectations.
As per the New Mexico Motor Vehicle Division regulations, only licensed drivers are permitted to operate vehicles on school property. Students MUST hold a valid NM driver's license or a Provisional License. A student with a permit cannot drive on campus as they need an adult driver in the vehicle. If your child is found driving without the proper license or without a parking permit, we will contact the parent/guardian to pick up the vehicle. As a school, we are committed to ensuring the safety of all our students and cannot be held liable in the event of an accident involving an unlicensed driver.
We also want to emphasize the importance of our dress code. Our code is designed to promote respect and decorum, allowing students to focus on their education without distractions. We have been seeing many issues with the dress code and students who must comply. Please visit our website: www.wlvs.k12.nm. You can click on online documents and take a look at our handbook for allowable attire. We are seeing a large number of students wearing very small revealing tops under a zippered jacket. They are taking the jackets off during the day. Many students are trying to wear shirts with insignia such as Cookies promoting vapes or alcohol. These items are prohibited.
Thank you for your support and understanding as we work together to maintain a safe and respectful environment for our students. Your cooperation and partnership in this matter are greatly appreciated.
Picture Day Has Been Rescheduled for September 3
Join us on August 30, 2024 at West Las Vegas High School for a
special event supporting students and families as they
prepare for the new school year. The Food Depot will be providing
healthy groceries to ensure our community's children start the year off right!
This event will take place from 9:30 am to 11:00 am at WLV High School.
Good Afternoon Dons Families:
This notice serves to remind you that we can only have a licensed driver parking on campus. We have many Freshman with no license or students with a permit. Keep in mind that according to the NM Motor Vehicle Division, a student with a permit must have a licensed adult in the vehicle with them. Students with a provisional license or a regular driver's license are allowed and should have secured a parking permit. Students were informed they will not be allowed to drive and park unless they have the proper licensure. Bus transportation is available to students.
West Las Vegas High School Families. Our drill was a success and a check was completed. There were no signs of any leakage of gas or odor detected. I wholeheartedly thank you for your patience and understanding. Our students and staff are valuable to us and we want to ensure they have an environment that is healthy for instruction.
Good afternoon. We want to communicate that West Las Vegas High School will be evacuating briefly. This evacuation will be conducted like a regular fire drill. With a small gas leak found yesterday, this evacuation serves as a quick test by the fire department to ensure everything is functioning normally. The gas in the area that was leaking yesterday was shut off and repaired. Student and staff safety is of the utmost importance! I appreciate your patience and understanding.
Dear Families, I hope this message finds you well. I want to express my sincere gratitude for your understanding and support during today's evacuation reroute. Your flexibility and willingness to work with us made a significant difference in ensuring the safety of our staff and students. We appreciate your quick responses and cooperation, which helped us navigate the situation efficiently and keep everyone informed. Thank you once again for your partnership and understanding. Together, we can continue to provide a safe and nurturing environment for our campus. Warm Regards, Principal Pacheco
Students this friendly reminder to charge your Chromebooks tonight. Bringing them fully charged every day ensures that you can participate in all class activities without interruption. Looking forward to seeing all of you on campus tomorrow. You are valued and appreciated.

Consider purchasing a t-shirt or blanket. This fundraiser supports the freshman, sophomore, junior and senior classes purchases items for their Homecoming floats. It's always a great day to be a Don and and this is a great way to show your school pride.
Attention West Las Vegas High School and family partnership students who have purchased a parking pass. You can now pick up your 24-25 parking badge from the front office. Please take care of this before, after, or during lunch to be on time for class.
Students who signed up for a locker may stop by the front office before, during lunch, or after school to receive your locker assignment and combinations.
LUNCH MENU FOR TOMORROW: Frito Pie, Chili con Carne, Corn Bread, Garnish, Fruit and Choice of Milk. If you are staying on campus, we encourage you to try our wonderful lunches that are free to all students.
Dear Families:
We are committed to ensuring the safety and security of all our staff and students on campus. Our school district has purchased a metal detector. We will be conducting a test at West Las Vegas High School tomorrow. All students will walk through the detector as they enter campus. This is simply a test to familiarize ourselves with the equipment and determine precisely how each detection level works. Please don't worry- we will ensure this process runs smoothly so students can get to class without disruption. We appreciate your support and understanding as we take these critical steps to maintain a safe learning environment. Thank you for your continued support and cooperation. It's Always A Great Day To Be A Don!
We look forward to seeing all your beautiful faces on campus tomorrow. A couple of things to remember is to follow parking and drop-off protocols. Remember that student drop-off is alongside the gymnasium and not in front of the school. Signage will be available to navigate you. At the end of the day, we ask that if you pick up a student, you avoid parking between the high school and the old middle school gym. Parking there creates a hazard for our buses. Students who have not purchased a parking pass will have this week to purchase one. Students without a pass will be asked to park in an un-numbered spot for now. Students who purchased a pass will need to show the pass on their windshield. Students who purchased a pass may come into the office to swap out their temporary pass and secure their official parking badge. Thank you all so much. It's always a great day to be a Don. This year is going to be amazing.
We want to take this opportunity to encourage regular attendance. Try joining our NBA All-Stars team (Never Been Absent). If you need to be absent due to appointments or illness this school year, we would love for you to "Strive For Less Than 5"
Good Afternoon, Dons Families and Alumni. Our wonderful city of Las Vegas has faced unprecedented challenges in recent years due to COVID-19, Wildfires, and, more recently, our water issues. Many of our businesses have been impacted and have had to close. West Las Vegas High School cares about our community, and we are asking for your help. We are excited to announce the launch of our online store, where you can purchase an item. Our store's funds will help our freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior classes buy items for their homecoming float designs without going into our community to solicit from our fantastic business. Our online store is an excellent opportunity to show your Dons Pride. Please consider purchasing an item. The additional $1.00 gets the item shipped to us. Shipment should arrive around Sept 25. Our store will close on August 16th @ noon.

Message from Mrs Mandy & Mr Soto:
Chromebook (School issued) – Please make sure it is charged every day.
Chromebook Charger (School issued, but if lost, student is responsible for replacing. You can order online or purchase through the WLV School District for $35.) – Must bring every day.
Notebook – Students will be required to take notes for all classes on FlexPoint.
Writing Utensil – Pen, pencil (with eraser), etc.
Headphones or earbuds – Must be able to pair with Chromebook if wireless.
Refillable water bottle – Water dispensers are available throughout campus. Bottles of water will not be provided this year (and our vending machine is not always filled.)
Phone Charger/Block – If students bring their phone, they will be asked to place it in a designated area during class time. They will be allowed to charge it at this location, but not at their desk so they will need a phone block.
**Note to Parents**
We plan on having a great year with your kids and have just a few “housekeeping” items to let you know about. Attendance is mandatory and will be closely monitored. All students are required to attend for the full scheduled school day, regardless of work schedules, etc. Students should come to school well rested and ready to work on their classes. We have a new online learning platform this year, so it is vital that your child attends every day to assist in this learning transition.
Dress code will be enforced so please make sure your child is dressed appropriately.
Since there will be a limitation on phone use, we ask that you encourage your child to only call you during a passing period or at lunch. If you need to get a hold of them in an emergency and they do not have their phone, please contact their teacher or the Secretary. Students are not allowed to receive phone calls during class time and should not make phone calls during this time either so please make lunch plans, etc. before school.
We hope to have incentive field trips throughout the school year. Eligibility to attend will be based on attendance, performance, participation in fundraisers, etc. I don’t want anyone to miss out so please encourage them to do their best.
We look forward to a great school year that will be fun and productive! Please reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns.
Teachers – Mrs. Amanda Ortiz and Mr. Stuart Soto
